Asja Prodan (PhD description- GUTS website)

Asja Prodan is a PhD candidate in the WP1 Amsterdam team at Vrije Univeristeit Amsterdam. Her research focuses on understanding brain network connectivity in adolescents experiencing depressive symptoms. She also investigates how gender and hormonal changes that occur during this important developmental period can influence this neuronal pattern. With her work, she aims to deepen our understanding of depressive symptom onset and expression, with the goal of supporting new strategies for early detection.

Asja holds a master’s degree in Cognitive Neuropsychology from VU Amsterdam. Her academic background also extends into pharmacology and the assessment of medication and therapeutic strategies. She is particularly interested in how environmental and biological factors interact in the brain to influence mental health, and how these interactions may affect the effectiveness of treatments and detection.
